Our Beliefs

We believe that there is only one true God, Creator of heaven and earth who eternally exists in three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, all sharing equally in the same nature and majesty of the Godhead.

God

Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, the only begotten Son of God, fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, shed His blood and died as an atonement for the sins of man, arose in bodily resurrection, and ascended to the right hand of God the Father.

The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for instruction and training in right living according to God’s will (2 Timothy 3:16). Within its pages is revealed God’s will for man completely and without error.

The Holy Spirit
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, who, through His indwelling, enables the Christian to live a godly life. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues as evidence that the Christian has received the gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift was promised by Jesus in Acts 1 and is intended for every believer.

The Bible teaches that we are each born as sinners, estranged from God by our inborn sin and by the things we do that are unacceptable to God and contrary to the Bible.

The Bible further teaches that, while we are each deserving of death, Jesus Christ died on the cross in order that all who believe in Him may be forgiven of our sins and restored to a relationship with our Creator (Psalm 32:5, Romans 5:8–10). This forgiveness of sin is available to all, requiring only that we have the faith to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and died for our sins with repentance. The believer is saved by grace through faith, receiving eternal life as a free gift of God’s grace (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8–9).

Jesus said, “You must be born again” (John 3:3–8), meaning we must be born of water (baptism in water) and of the Spirit (baptism of the Holy Spirit). The process of becoming born-again enables us to be transferred out of the kingdom of sin and into the kingdom of Jesus Christ, where we are made partakers of His holiness.

We believe in the scriptural imperatives of repentance, forgiveness of sins, faith toward God, water baptism, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

We believe in water baptism for the remission of sin and the circumcision of the heart. The biblical pattern is that we be baptized by immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ.

We believe in water baptism by immersion for the remission of sin and the circumcision of the heart (Colossians 2:11–13). The biblical pattern is that we be baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. In the waters of baptism our old nature is robbed of its power over us, thus freeing us to be recreated into the image of Christ by the Holy Spirit (Romans 6:2–11).

We believe in the future physical resurrection of the dead—righteous believers to a resurrection of eternal life, and unbelievers to a resurrection of judgment and condemnation.

The Church, as the body of Christ, is indwelt by the presence of the Holy Spirit and is the place in which God has put the ministries that are necessary for His people to mature and grow up into Christ.

From the very beginning, God has desired to have a people for Himself—a nation of people who would love Him and serve Him with their whole being. The physical manifestation of the Lord’s people on the earth is the Church. As a result of God’s commitment to build His Church, His presence is evident in the Church in a powerful way. The Church, as the body of Christ, is indwelt by the presence of the Holy Spirit, and is the place in which God has put the ministries that are necessary for His people to mature and grow up into Christ (1 Corinthians 12:28). As a result, the local church is central to God’s plan for the care and growth of His people.

We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the church (1 Corinthians 12:7–11). According to Scripture, these gifts are enablements distributed freely by the Holy Spirit to every member of the body of Christ according to His will.

We believe that God appointed ministries in the church, the community of believers, for the equipping of the saints and the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11–13). The biblical pattern for the leading of the local church is a plurality of elders who together are responsible for shepherding the flock of God (Acts 20:17, 28; 1 Peter 5:1–3).

Having a solid, well-built foundation is essential in building anything that is meant to last. The Bible speaks of our lives as buildings and helps us to understand the kind of foundation upon which they must be built to remain solid. The Bible also tells us that the “building” we create over the course of our lifetime will be judged by the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:10–15, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Romans 14:10). We must build our lives upon a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the bedrock of our faith. Once we have established a personal relationship with Jesus, we have a basis to continue building our lives on the solid foundation of God’s Word.

In order to guide those who are new to Wellspring Church in establishing a solid foundation in the Word of God upon which they can build, we offer newcomers the chance to participate in the Foundations of the Christian Faith class. This class provides a comprehensive understanding of the foundation stones of our Christian faith and the principles that support our life together in the church community.

In biblical praise and worship, enabled by the Holy Spirit, the people of God sing psalms (choruses) and hymns, lift up their hands to the Lord, clap their hands, and dance before the Lord as an expression of their love for Him.

Worship is, at the most fundamental level, our expression of adoration to the Lord and our proclamation of how worthy He is of our worship. We believe that, as New Testament priests, we are to offer a sacrifice of praise to the Lord through the “fruit of our lips” (Hebrews 13:15, 1 Peter 2:5). As we glorify God through praise and worship, He reveals His glory to us and releases the power of God, grace, and blessings to us (2 Chronicles 5:13–14, 2 Chronicles 20:20–22).

At Wellspring Church, we believe that we should follow the biblical pattern for praise and worship, enabled by the Holy Spirit, including the singing of psalms (choruses) and hymns as well as the singing of a “spiritual song” expressed in the language of the Spirit. We love to sing modern songs, classic choruses, and beloved hymns of the faith in our worship services.
